About Me
I am a marriage and Family therapist, licensed in California, Kansas, and Texas. As an intuitive & empathic therapist; I hope to keep our focus on the present, with an awareness of the past and hope for the future.
Background and Approach:
You might recall a scene from a movie where a peaceful airplane ride suddenly turns turbulent, and the plane starts to drop in altitude. In the midst of the chaos, the flight attendant urges you to "put your oxygen mask on first" before helping anyone else. This straightforward advice is just as important in our everyday lives!
I know it can be tough to take time for yourself, especially if you're someone who often puts others' needs before your own. Together in our therapy sessions, we'll explore your thoughts, feelings, decisions, choices, desires, and needs. I’m here to help you "find your voice" and learn to "put your oxygen mask on first."
My approach to therapy is friendly, supportive, and conversational in nature. I encourage you to be an active partner as we work together to gain insight, grow as individuals, and bring about positive changes in your life.
I have extensive experience helping individuals navigate a wide range of challenges that can profoundly impact their mental and emotional well-being. This includes managing the intense pressures of academic life and the demands of the workplace, where stress can feel overwhelming. I also understand the unique journey of first-generation immigrants, who often grapple with the complexities of adapting to new cultures and environments while maintaining their identity.
I’m passionate about exploring the emotional and psychological shifts that accompany life's changes. I actively engage with critical social issues such as racism, homophobia, and transphobia, understanding how these realities can create conflict and disrupt personal stability. I strive to support individuals through significant life transitions, helping them find resilience and balance as they navigate the complexities of their experiences. My goal is to foster a sense of empowerment and well-being in each person I work with.
I recognize the importance of race, culture, and identity in shaping our lives. These factors can really influence our experiences and the challenges we face. It’s essential to understand how issues like oppression and prejudice, along with different types of discrimination, can affect our overall well-being.
I have worked with a diverse range of individuals throughout my career, including teenagers, adults, couples, families, and groups of all ages. I focus on creating a safe and supportive space for exploration and healing. In our sessions, I use various therapy methods to meet individual needs. These include Cognitive Therapy to change negative thought patterns, Solution-Focused Therapy to find practical solutions, Trauma-Focused Therapy to help heal past traumas, Psychodynamic Therapy to explore unconscious processes, and Attachment-Based Therapy to strengthen relationships and emotional bonds.
Together, we will address the issues that matter most to you—whether you're grappling with anxiety, depression, cultural identity concerns, or the aftermath of trauma—empowering you to find clarity, resilience, and growth on your journey toward wellness.
Video Introduction
Is Therapy Right for You?
Psychotherapy is an invaluable resource for anyone facing personal or mental health challenges. A common misconception is that you must have a diagnosed mental health condition to seek help; this belief is far from the truth!
Therapy can be a rewarding journey for self-discovery and fostering better relationships with yourself and those around you. It provides helpful insights and coping strategies that can be helpful, especially if you're facing challenges like depression, anxiety, phobias, addiction, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), OR Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Additionally, it often works in conjunction with medical treatments, providing a comprehensive approach to achieving optimal well-being.
For many people, therapy offers a safe and nurturing environment in which to openly discuss a range of topics. This can include the heavy burden of grief, the complexities of changing relationships, or significant life transitions that are causing distress. Your therapist will help you develop effective coping skills, empowering you to address issues related to communication, conflict resolution, and emotional regulation.
Many individuals discover that therapy helps them gain a deeper understanding of themselves, which can lead to a greater sense of control over their lives and decisions. This journey offers numerous opportunities for growth and healing, transforming the exploration of your inner world into a pathway for empowerment and positive change!
